Turbulence: Embracing this energy to grow.
What image comes into your mind when you hear the word Turbulence?
For me, Turbulence implies a movement, activity, and any change that may or may not have been planned. I am reframing this as just another buzzword for opportunity. Just think about what happens after a bad storm hits a community. The “helpers” appear out of nowhere. Most I think are caring, but some unfortunately, are not. But all of them are feeding on the after turbulence clean-up or refresh.
Turbulence from wind and rain and flooding impacts fishing. Most fish are opportunistic feeders. If they can find a spot that lets them rest and brings food to them, they are home. Turbulence does this for them in a stream, in a current by jetties, and larger upwelling currents such as the Gulf Stream.
Turbulence happens when new people are hired or when others leave, or when new leadership takes over or when new processes and requirements happen such as the evolution of software programs. One thing I have notice is that turbulence usually occurs when something is so significantly different that it requires us to adopt new sets of behaviors. Turbulence provides us with an opportunity to expand and develop beyond what we currently hold as our fishing grounds: to Flow and grow.
Turbulence can happen even when things seem to be going great. However, it does not imply that something is going south or sour. Consider it an opportunity to move in a new direction. One turbulence for many in the over 55-age group is found in the variety and complexities of social media. It is numbing for some of us. However, because all of us are looking to find “The Passive Asset” that when working well, and with little effort, brings us new connections. We must adapt and figure out ways to embrace this turbulence as an asset. Become the fish using the turbulence for feeding purposes.
